Smart Software Selected as a “Great Supply Chain Partner”
Customers nominate Smart Software for recognition by industry publication Supply Chain Brain
Belmont, Mass., August 9, 2012 – Smart Software, Inc., provider of industry-leading demand forecasting, planning, and inventory optimization solutions, today announced that Supply Chain Brain, a well-respected supply chain industry publication, has again chosen the company as one of the world’s “100 Great Supply Chain Partners.” Smart Software was nominated by its customers and selected, for the seventh year, as a leader in supply chain management, its technical achievements, and its ability to meet customers’ needs for demand forecasting and demand planning solutions.
Supply Chain Brain published its findings in its July/August 2012 issue. The magazine cites Smart Software customers’ reasons for nominating the company:
“After benchmarking several forecasting software products, SmartForecasts became the obvious choice for us. We have been using it for years as a key element of our MRP process.”
“Their software has enabled us to increase availability while reducing inventory.”
“Coupling their forecast with our fleet retirement schedule, we were able to more accurately reduce replenishment at a proportionate rate. Cost avoidance for these fleets alone was approximately $1.6m.”
“They have provided outstanding customer support outside of the normal contractual obligations.”
According to Brad Berger, publisher of Supply Chain Brain, “Supply Chain Brain’s 10th annual list of “100 Great Supply Chain Partners”is the result of a six-month on-line poll in which supply chain professionals were asked to nominate vendors and service providers whose solutions have made a significant impact on their company’s efficiency, customer service and overall supply chain performance. Thousands of nominations were received for hundreds of trading partners in every aspect of supply chain management. This year’s list represents companies whose solutions and services have been so impressive, that their customers took the time to write and let us know. Our compliments to Smart Software on making this select list of companies!”
“We work very hard to deliver exceptional value to our customers – value that enables them to effectively forecast, plan, and optimize their inventory needs.” said Nelson Hartunian, president of Smart Software. “Our solutions have helped hundreds of companies reduce inventories, cut costs, and increase service levels at a time when these capabilities are critical to business success. It is especially gratifying to be nominated by our customers, and to get such strong affirmation from a leading supply chain publication.”

Smart Software Wins Two More Supply Chain Awards for 2012
Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Inbound Logistics Again Select Smart Software for Top 100 Lists
Belmont, Mass., May 9, 2012 -Smart Software, Inc., provider of industry-leading demand forecasting, planning, and inventory optimization solutions, today announced that two supply chain industry publications have again chosen the company to be on their “Top 100” lists. Smart was selected by Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Inbound Logistics for the seventh and eighth years, respectively. The listings recognize Smart Software as a leader in the supply chain planning software niche, and highlight the company’s strengths in technical innovation and the ability to meet customers’ needs for forecasting and demand planning solutions.
Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine chose Smart Software for its annual “Supply & Demand Chain Executive 100” announced on May 2, and to be published in its June 2012 issue. This year, the magazine focused the criteria for its “100” feature on supply chain transformation projects that have had a significant impact on a company through the implementation process. Smart Software’s submission described a project with Montreal Transit Corporation, which used Smart’s flagship product, SmartForecasts®, to help the agency meet the very high levels of customer service demanded by its operating units, while reducing the service parts inventory required.
“Our goal with this year’s ‘100’ is to put the spotlight on successful and innovative transformation projects that are delivering bottom-line value to small, medium and large enterprises across the different functions that comprise the supply chain,” said Barry Hochfelder, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “The projects featured in the ‘100’ article can serve as a roadmap for supply chain executives looking for new opportunities to drive improvement in their own operations.”
In its April 2012 issue, Inbound Logistics’ editors recognized 100 logistics IT companies that support and enable logistics excellence. Chosen from more than 300 companies, the “Top 100 Logistics IT Providers” selected demonstrate leadership by answering Inbound Logistics readers’ needs for scalability, simplicity, fast ROI, and ease of implementation.
“When choosing this year’s Top 100 Logistics IT Providers, Inbound Logistics‘ editors looked for technology providers that solved specific logistics challenges, but also acted as change agents by helping to transform overall business operations,” said Felicia Stratton, editor of Inbound Logistics. “Selections were based on how transformative logistics IT solutions impact all business activities and drive integration across internal processes as well as external processes for vendors and customers. Smart Software was selected because its solutions work tactically to master supply chain transactions, as well as strategically to act as a change agent to drive the enterprise to more closely match demand to supply. Inbound Logistics is proud to honor Smart Software for innovative solutions empowering logistics and supply chain excellence.”
“I continue to be amazed by the number companies – large and small – that leave millions of dollars on the table by not embracing transformative supply chain technologies,” said Charles Smart, president and CEO of Smart Software. “We are driven by the opportunity to help organizations streamline their demand planning and inventory optimization processes, achieving greater operational performance with substantially reduced inventories. We do this without disrupting existing systems and processes, and are gratified to receive this recognition for our work.”

100 Great Supply Chain Partners Award
Supply Chain Brain magazine chose Smart Software for its list of “100 Great Supply Chain Partners” for the sixth year in a row. Smart was nominated for this distinction by several of its customers from manufacturing, distribution, and service parts organizations that use its flagship product, SmartForecasts, to achieve outstanding demand forecasting and inventory planning results.
“We received thousands of nominations this year, including many multiple nominations for the same company,” said Russell Goodman, editor in chief ofSupply Chain Brain. “That no one can compel anybody to take time from their busy workday to send a message to us in itself says something very important about the services these nominees provide: their clients appreciate what they do for them. But here’s the point: Each has strengths that it brought to bear on the needs and challenges of its customer. And each did its job so well that the customer clearly feels it emerged as a winner.”

Smart Software Presents SmartForecasts 8.4
Improves demand forecast integration with enterprise planning systems
Belmont, Massachusetts, February 10, 2012 – Smart Software, Inc., provider of industry-leading demand forecasting, planning, and inventory optimization solutions, will present Version 8.4 of its flagship product, SmartForecasts®, at the Institute of Business Forecasting & Planning Conference, Feb. 27-28 in Scottsdale, Arizona. New enhancements in this latest version will streamline numerous operations within the demand planning process, as well as the flow of data between demand and inventory planners and those responsible for enterprise planning systems. Eric Cox, Senior Sales Representative for Smart Software, will be on hand at the IBF Conference to discuss these and additional, upcoming enhancements. (Learn more about the conference at www.ibf.org)
“SmartForecasts 8.4 reflects our commitment to meet our customers’ needs to integrate accurate forecasts and inventory stocking information so they can make better planning decisions. This has been exceedingly critical as organizations seek to reduce their costs and increase their cash flow in a difficult economic environment,” said Charles Smart, president and CEO of Smart Software. “In particular, our patented intermittent demand forecasting technology has proven to be an effective way for service/spare parts operations and companies engaged in capital goods manufacturing to manage their hard-to-forecast inventory items. It has enabled our customers to reduce their aggregate inventories and improve cash flow while achieving the same or better service levels across their distribution networks.”
SmartForecasts is a best-in-class, cross-industry solution for demand forecasting, demand planning, and inventory optimization, with special capabilities to meet the needs of organizations with intermittent, “slow moving” demand. It integrates easily with host databases, such as Oracle, SQL Server, and IBM DB2, and virtually any ERP system, including mainstream solutions from SAP, Microsoft, Sage and Epicor. Version 8.4 of SmartForecasts includes the following new features and capabilities:
- Import/Export module, with new data integration capabilities providing fast, hands-off data transfer between SmartForecasts and corporate planning systems. This new module will eliminate the need for most if not all IT involvement in the exchange of demand forecast, safety stock, and historical data.
- Improved “what if” options that streamline the demand planning process by enabling users to make “on-the-fly” changes to key, embedded forecast parameters during batch automatic forecasting and simultaneously save these changes for future use.
- Support for background processing of extremely large databases, allowing users to forecast an essentially unlimited number of items. This will enable SmartForecasts to operate on very large data sets efficiently, utilizing distributed computer resources.
- Continued refinement of the core SmartForecasts system, including enhancements to numerical data filtering that speed forecast analysis and improve post-forecast decision support. Data table editing capabilities have been extended so that users can easily create “histories” for new inventory items based on values for comparable products, making these items forecastable.
SmartForecasts 8.4 is fully compatible with SmartCollaborator, Smart Software’s complementary application that provides web-based collaboration across the enterprise by utilizing feedback from remote users both inside and outside the corporation to foster consensus forecasting and better communications between planning groups.
SmartForecasts 8.4 is shipping now and is available directly from Smart Software and authorized resellers.
