Since its founding in 1984, Smart Software has been a leading provider of demand planning, forecasting, and inventory optimization solutions. We help our customers utilize their corporate data including sales history, demand signals, supplier transactions, and more to better forecast sales, optimize inventory stocking requirements, and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency. Today hundreds of leading organizations around the globe including FedEx, The Home Depot, Otis Elevator, Metro-North Railroad, Disneyland Resorts, and MARS, as well as many mid- and small market enterprises use our solutions to improve forecast accuracy and optimize inventory levels.
Our mission is to provide analytical solutions that help our customers leverage their corporate data to plan for demand, better understand their business, and to generate significant economic return. Our success is built on continuous innovation. We pioneered the use of automatic demand forecasting utilizing statistical methods and developed a patented APICS award-winning method for intermittent demand forecasting. Both innovations continue to yield major inventory cost reductions and service level improvements for our customers. Smart Platform is our latest innovation. By harnessing the power of the cloud, we’ve developed an enterprise class inventory optimization, demand planning, and supply chain analysis solution that meets the needs of leading global companies while still being accessible to small and mid-sized corporations.
Smart Software delivers its solutions and services directly and through its network of partners and distributors. We are headquartered near Boston in Belmont, Massachusetts.

President & CEO
Greg serves as Smart Software’s president and CEO and is a member of the Board of Directors. Greg joined the company in 1999, beginning as sales associate and rising to become VP Sales and Operations. Greg holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from The F.W. Olin School of Business at Babson College and received his BA from Syracuse University.
VP of Marketing & Business Development
Jeff leads marketing and business development, including the formation of strategic customer relationships, alliances, and channels of distribution. Previously Jeff served as Vice President, Marketing and Business Development for LiveData, Inc., a Cambridge software developer, and held senior marketing and channel development roles at Comverse, Compaq, Digital and Banyan Systems. Jeff holds a Master’s Degree in Management from MIT Sloan and received his BA from Dartmouth College.
VP of Customer Support
Kate leads Smart Software’s technical support, implementation, and training teams. She has supported and led the continued enrichment of SmartForecasts and our customers’ collective user experience since joining the company in 1999. Kate also plays a pivotal role advising on the design of Smart Software’s current and next generation solutions. She holds an MS degree in Information Systems from Northeastern University and a BA in Mathematics from Smith College.
Sree runs Smart Software’s software development and operations team and is responsible for product and technology, strategy, and delivery. Sree comes to Smart Software with 15+ years of Software development and Product management experience in a variety of Senior Roles. Most recently, Sree was Sr. Vice President of Product Management at Carecloud, Inc and CTO at Terapeak, Inc. Sree has a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Nelson Hartunian, Ph.D.
Chairman, Treasurer and Co-Founder
Nelson oversees Smart Software as Chairman of the Board. He has served in a variety of executive roles since founding Smart Software, most recently as President, and previously headed software development, sales, and customer services. Together with Dr. Willemain and Mr. Smart, Nelson designed and developed SmartForecasts®, the company’s flagship software solution. He received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Physics from Tufts University and the Ph.D. in Physics from Brandeis University.
Thomas Willemain, Ph.D.
Senior VP for Research and Co-Founder
Tom directs Smart Software’s research and advanced development of forecasting and demand planning technology. He is also Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a member of the research staff at the Center for Computing Sciences, Institute for Defense Analyses. Previously Tom served on the faculties of both MIT and Harvard University. He received the BSE degree from Princeton University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT.
Vice Chairman and Co-Founder
Charles led Smart Software as its founding president for nearly thirty years. He now serves as Vice Chairman. Prior to founding Smart Software, he was a management consultant at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI International) and Policy Analysis, Inc., and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Charles holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and the MBA in Finance and Economics from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
