We pioneered the first automatic demand forecasting utilizing statistical methods, developed a patented APICS award-winning method for intermittent demand forecasting, and were recently awarded a patent for a new probabilistic forecasting method that better leverages daily demand signals. Tom directs Smart Software’s research and advanced development of forecasting and demand planning technology. He is also Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Willemain’s public service activities included engineering work with NASA, sabbatical visits to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Security Agency, and further service in the Intelligence Community at the Institute for Defense Analyses Center for Computing Sciences. Previously Tom served on the faculties of both MIT and Harvard University. He received the BSE degree from Princeton University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT.
