Forum Energy Technologies is een wereldwijd opererend bedrijf voor olieveldproducten met een waarde van $1.7 miljard en bedient de olie- en aardgasindustrie. Met meer dan 3.500 medewerkers heeft Forum haar hoofdkantoor in Houston, TX en heeft het productie- en distributiefaciliteiten die strategisch over de hele wereld zijn gevestigd. De uitdaging<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Forum stond voor een complexe uitdaging op het gebied van vraagplanning. Het bedrijf, dat zeer cyclisch is en gevoelig is voor marktveranderingen, vereiste een responsief planningsproces. Dit werd bemoeilijkt door het feit dat de meeste van de artikelen in voorraad een sporadische, schijnbaar onvoorspelbare, intermitterende vraag vertonen. Dit wordt gekenmerkt door veel nul- of lage volumewaarden afgewisseld met willekeurige pieken die vaak vele malen groter zijn dan de gemiddelde vraag.<\/p>\n

Forum vertrouwde op een omslachtig, op Excel gebaseerd prognoseproces dat schattingen van de gemiddelde vraag opleverde, maar geen aanwijzingen gaf over de juiste voorraadniveaus. Het bepalen van de voorraadniveaus was vooral giswerk, gebaseerd op intu\u00eftie. Het grote aantal items en het gebrek aan effectieve tools resulteerden in een ineffici\u00ebnt planningsproces waarbij slechts een klein deel van de items regelmatig kon worden beoordeeld. Het was niet ongebruikelijk dat items eenmaal per kwartaal werden voorspeld.<\/p>\n

Met een doorlooptijd van zes tot tien maanden voor ge\u00efmporteerde artikelen en een cyclisch ondernemingsklimaat, moest Forum vaker prognoses maken om sneller te kunnen reageren op veranderende marktomstandigheden. Dit zou een datagestuurde oplossing vereisen die de juiste voorraadniveaus zou kunnen bepalen om het voorraadrisico te verminderen en tegelijkertijd de voorraad op een betaalbaar niveau te houden.<\/p>\n

De oplossing<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Forum Energy heeft SmartForecasts gekocht vanwege zijn vermogen om automatisch geschikte prognosemethoden toe te passen op specifieke items, intermitterende vraag te verwerken en te communiceren met zijn Epicor ERP.<\/p>\n

SmartForecasts stelde Forum in staat om verschillende wijzigingen aan te brengen in de manier waarop het zijn inventaris beheerde:
\n\u2022 prognoses automatiseren, de effici\u00ebntie verhogen in die mate dat planners producten op maandbasis kunnen voorspellen en de tijd en het vermogen hebben om uitzonderingen te beoordelen;
\n\u2022 prognoses op zowel gereed product- als componentniveau, gebruikmakend van SmartForecasts intermitterende vraagprognose voor alle componenten;
\n\u2022 een zinvol S&OP-proces uitvoeren dat supply chain management en verkoop omvat; en,
\n\u2022 verschillende voorraadbeleid- en serviceniveauscenario's modelleren om voorraadinvesteringen beter toe te wijzen en sneller te reageren op marktveranderingen.<\/p>\n

De resultaten<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Net als andere bedrijven in de olie- en gasindustrie heeft Forum een vertraging van haar activiteiten ervaren. SmartForecasts stelde Forum in staat zijn voorraden snel aan te passen door wat-als-scenario's uit te voeren en de risico's van verschillende acties te evalueren. Hoewel het pas onlangs is begonnen met het gebruik van Smart's "Service Level Demand Planning"-methodologie, heeft volgens Rod Cardenas, inkoopmanager, "de serviceniveauplanningsmethode geleid tot productieve gesprekken tussen verkoop en supply chain en ons een platform of gemeenschappelijke basis gegeven van waarop we onze discussies baseren.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forum doet nu intermitterende vraagprognoses voor al zijn componenten. Dat vermogen is een belangrijke factor geweest bij het vergroten van het vertrouwen in het voorspellen van resultaten. Volgens Cardenas: \u201cSmartForecasts geeft ons goede informatie om mee te werken. Mensen voelen zich op hun gemak bij cijfers en door ons S&OP-proces hebben we een buy-in in het hele bedrijf kunnen cre\u00ebren.\u201d<\/p>\n

In vier jaar tijd kende Forum een omzetgroei van 15-20% per jaar, en was in staat om dit te doen zonder de voorraad te vergroten. Met behulp van SmartForecasts is het dit jaar ook in staat geweest om de voorraadomloopsnelheid te verhogen van 1,8 keer naar naar schatting 3,0 keer.<\/p>\n

Onlangs is Forum begonnen met een door leveranciers beheerd inventarisatieprogramma (VMI) voor zijn bevestigingsmiddelen. SmartForecasts wordt gebruikt om leveranciers te helpen hun opslaglocaties te beheren. Door het voorraadrisico naar zijn leveranciers te verschuiven, heeft Forum de interne voorraad kunnen verminderen van 700.000 naar 100.000, en zal naar verwachting in staat zijn om de interne voorraad 12 keer om te draaien.<\/p>\n
