Press Release Smart Software Appoints New President, Dr. Nelson Hartunian
Belmont, Mass., September 12, 2012 - Smart Software, Inc. today
announced the appointment of co-founder Nelson Hartunian, PhD, to the position
of president and the decision by co-founder Charles Smart to step down from that
position to assume the new role of Vice Chairman. As Vice Chairman, Mr.
Smart will continue to serve Smart Software as a member of the Board of
Directors, company spokesperson, and in the development of strategic business
relationships.
Dr. Hartunian and Mr. Smart, together with Thomas Willemain, Ph.D., formed
Smart Software in 1984. Their vision, that the introduction and automation
of statistical analysis and modern operations research methodologies could
significantly improve demand forecasting and inventory planning, resonated with
customers struggling to optimize inventory investments. Smart Software has
become a leading provider of demand forecasting, planning and inventory
optimization solutions, with thousands of users worldwide, and marquee customers
that include such industry leaders as Otis Elevator, Metro-North Railroad,
Montreal Transit, Siemens and General Electric.
Dr. Hartunian has served Smart Software in a variety of executive capacities
since the company's founding, most recently as Senior Vice President of
Operations. Prior roles include leading software development, sales, and
customer services. Together with Dr. Willemain and Mr. Smart, Dr.
Hartunian designed and developed SmartForecasts®, the company's
flagship software solution. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering
and M.S. in Physics from Tufts University, and his Ph.D. in Physics from
Brandeis University.
